Two hundred years after Beethoven’s death, Music Hall Classics brings his music together in one varied concert. From the famous opening motif of the Fifth Symphony to the stillness of the Moonlight Sonata and the exuberance of the Ode to Joy: discover the many sides of Beethoven.

THE TRIBUTE

Beethoven 200 brings together selections from his symphonies, concertos, piano works and choral music. Intimate moments at the piano alternate with the full power of choir and orchestra. With two hundred performers on one stage, this tribute to Beethoven has a truly grand scale.

THE MUSIC

The programme includes the first movement of the Fifth Symphony, with its famous opening motif, and the first movement of the Pastoral Symphony. Für Elise and the first movement of the Moonlight Sonata also feature, alongside the second movement of Piano Concerto No. 5, the Rondo from the Violin Concerto and the Fidelio Overture. Soloists, choir and orchestra come together in the Benedictus and Hosanna from the Missa solemnis, the finale of the Choral Fantasy and the finale of the Ninth Symphony with the Ode to Joy.

THE PERFORMANCE

La Passione orchestra, deChorale and soloists perform Beethoven 200 under conductor Paul Dinneweth. With a choir of 140 singers and two hundred performers in total, Beethoven’s music can unfold in all its richness. The same ensemble gave three sold-out concerts featuring Carmina Burana and Boléro last year. Great symphonic music in its purest form, live and full of energy.
